BC Blaze openly discusses team strengths and weaknesses; members use problem-solving strategies to improve. A new abundance of alumni mentors combined with strong returning sponsors helps the program be one of the oldest teams in Northern Michigan. Our greatest strength is our greatest weakness, with our small community offering limited support and mentors having to split their limited hours to help. Given our rural environment, we see the opportunity for traditional and non-traditional opportunities for students through our program including business, graphic design, engineering, and the trades. Many teams packed into the same rural area results in competition for mentor resources. BC Blaze answers this need through “community coopertition”; hosting the annual Robotics Kick-Off, providing workshops, training, fellowship, and team outreach.
